The bolt is on the inner side of the starter and is used to hold the starter as well as affix the tranny to the engine. This nut can be removed without having to hold the bolt head as the bolt head is captured against the starter and thus won't rotate on you.

357 viewsSusan, Ken, and I hiked along one of the trails to see some "caves". Right. It was just a small cliff outcropping, a natural lean-to if anything. To the right of the "cave" was this tree that looked like it was keeping the cliff from falling out. It was several stories high and straight up. Photo-stitched.
